FANFEST 2010 presented by Sojourn – Near Capacity Crowd!!

Saturday night was FANFEST 2010 sponsored by Sojourn Signs at Speedway  660 with free grandstand admission to anyone who attended the event.   The event in its second year of existence was again a huge success with a near capacity crowd make its way to the Geary woods.  Fans would have to wait though, as an hour long rain delay struck just as the first set of heats were getting started.

After the rain cleared, four divisions were active on this night with the Bandeleros starting things off with some great action.   D.J. Casey couldn’t make it three wins in a row, instead it was the 00 of Cole Boudreau at the young age of 13 taking the checkered flag.  DJ Casey did finish a strong 2nd with Dana Hamm rounding out the top three.  The race turned out to be very entertaining with several great battles throughout the field

In the Leisure Family RV.com Street Stock division, rivalry’s seemed to be heating up with the 54# of Rick Cashol taking the victory but not before some exciting side by side racing with his nemesis, Matt Matheson of Geary.   With just 5 laps to go, off a restart, it was Matheson on the outside of Cashol.  Matheson edged by the 54 on lap 18 but couldn’t hold it.   Cashol eventually took the win with Matheson winding up 2nd.    Third place went to the 23 of Mike Francis in another solid run.

In the Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman division it was Dan McNeil in his #80 ride taking home the checkered flag with his first victory since his dramatic win last year on SPEEDWEEKEND.  McNeil powered by the 11 of Cal Hatfield off a restart and never let up from there.  Hatfield who led the first part of the race turned in his best finish of the year with a second place finish.  Long time racer Billy Sommerville showed the young guys he’s still got what it takes, taking home a third place finish.

In the Coastal Packaging and Blending Main event, the 40 lap affair had its share of excitement.  The biggest of which saw Robert Tomlinson #29 take a hard lick into the bank only to end up on his roof.   Matt Harris and the 29 made contact on the backstretch and from there Tomlinson could only hold on.   Tomlinson who’s been steady all year was ok but he would have to retire from the race.    Greg Fahey continued his run for a third consecutive championship with a first place finish while the veteran Chris Duncan had an impressive day with a heat and dash win to go along with his second place finish in the feature.   Brent Wiggins of Fredericton rounded out the top three.

Speedway 660 resumes action next Saturday night July 3rd with Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman 100.  The Sportsman Division will run a 100 lap feature as well there will be racing in the Bandelero, Leisure Family Rv.com Street Stock and COASTAL Blending & Packaging Prostock divisions.
