No Time to Waste for Lonnie Sommerville as PASS North Debut is Next!

Saint John, NB 5/9/09- Speedway 660 to Riverside International Speedway and then back to Speedway 660, that’s been the schedule for Saint John native Lonnie Sommerville so far this season and it doesn’t get any easier in the foreseeable future. Sommerville, coming off of an impressive third place finish in race two of the Carquest Maritime Pro Stock Tour this weekend will do a quick turn around as he will prepare for a 200 lap PASS North race at Speedway 660 this Saturday.

This weekend’s race at Riverside was a test in itself for the Lonnie Sommerville Racing team. At the end of day practice and qualifying sessions the #23 A. E. McKay Builders Chevy Impala stood just twelfth on the speed charts. Fortunately enough for the team, changes made to the car prior to the 100 lap feature event proved to be a wise decision in the end. Lonnie crossed the line third for his best finish of the 2009 season but more importantly the finish should move him within the top three in series points.

“We came and tested on Friday and were terrible and then all the rain came on Saturday and I was hoping it was going to rain so much we wouldn’t be able to race because we were just that bad. But my crew guys stayed at it all day and made some changes to the car before the heat races and the car actually raced pretty well. We just needed a few more cautions to really have a shot at the top spot, but to end up third after the way the car was all weekend really made third place feel pretty good,” stated Sommerville.

While most tour regulars will enjoy their off weekend Lonnie will have no time to waste as he will defend both his home track and his home turf as the American invaders that make up the PASS North tour will do battle for 200 laps Saturday June 13th at Speedway 660 in Geary, NB.

“The PASS series, whether you’re racing in the north or south, is a tough series with some talented drivers. Our team seems to be getting better each week and with Speedway 660 being our home track we’re pretty confident that we should run pretty well. If we could win that race it would mean so much to me and the racing community in Canada all together,” added Sommerville who lead the most laps in PASS South competition early this season at Hickory (NC).
