Wade’s Weekly – Issue #3

I can’t wait until the THUNDER returns to the Geary Woods this Saturday night. The Pro All Star Series is coming to Speedway 660 for a 200 lapper. Talk about excitement…these guys are going to set the woods on fire!

Johnny Clark, the 2007 Peterbilt 250 winner, obviously knows how to get it done here at Speedway 660. J.C. is off to a great start on the PASS Tour with wins at Speedway 95 and Unity Raceway down in Maine. Clark also leads the points. Ben Rowe, who we’ve also seen here a time or two has a win this season at the White Mountain Motorsports Park in New Hampshire and Chris Staples won the PASS race at Beech Ridge (Maine).

Johnny Clark (centre) has won two PASS Tour races this year. Scott Chubbuck (right) and Randy Turner (left) were second and third at the event at Unity Raceway.

The Pro All Star Series is the brain-child of Tom Mayberry. Without a tour for Pro Stock racers in the northeast, Mr. Mayberry put together the PASS Tour for the 2001 racing season. Ben Rowe won six races that first year, but didn’t capture the championship. That honour went to “Sud’n Sam” Sessions, from South Paris, Maine who didn’t win a race. Brian Gillespie did the same thing in our Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman Division a few years ago.

Ben Rowe and Johnny Clark have been the dominant PASS Tour drivers over the years. Ben has four championships (02, 03, 05 & 07), while Johnny is the defending PASS champ and he also topped the charts in 04 and 06.
Its going to be great night of action and with all of the PASS teams in town, it will be a fantastic opportunity to promote our SPEEDWEEKEND. With a little encouragement I’ll bet we can get these guys to come back for the Peterbilt 250!

Whenever a tour comes to Speedway 660, our Sportsman Drivers always  step-it-up a notch. It is an excellent opportunity for them to show the big crowd and the tour teams that we’ve got great racing. I am confident they will rise to the occasion on Saturday night.

I can’t finish up without a few words about DQ Kids Day. What a time the kids had and the racing was great too. It was exciting to see John Rankin get his first feature win in Sportsman, followed by Matt Maillet and Brent Roy. Perhaps we are witnessing a changing of the guard in this competitive division as the young guns start to come to the front. What about Glenn Rasmussen’s effort in pro stock? Fans of the driver of the Big Black Dodge were happy to see him back in The Auto Pride Victory Lane!

DQ Kids Day always takes me back a hundred years or so when I was a kid. Saturday night was race night and we all packed into our 1956 Crown Victoria to head to the local track. My heroes raced at my local track and I am always excited to see a new generation of young race fans come out to see their “modern day heroes” here at Speedway 660!
