The fastest youngsters in the Maritime Provinces are getting ready to put on a show for race fans at Speedway 660. Saturday night at 7PM, the kids in the Westwood Estate Apartments Bandolero Division will rule the Geary Woods, when they take the green flag in a 30 lap Bando Blast.

“The Bando boys and girls are excited to have an opportunity to be the feature attraction at our track on Saturday night” said Speedway 660’s Max Roy. “These kids go fast, race hard and love this sport, so it’s going to be a real treat for our fans when they roll out on Speedway 660 for their longest feature race of the season.”

Cole Tanner 2nd place Bando feature May 31, 2014Cole Tanner and his Dad Jackie travel all the way from Shubenacadie, Nova Scotia to race at Speedway 660. Cole has finished 2nd in the first two features of the season and hopes to move up to the Riverview Ford Victory Lane in Saturday’s 30 lap Bando Blast.

The Bandolero Division debuted in the Geary Woods back in 2010. It provided a bridge between go-karts and stock car racing for many youngsters. Most Bando drivers are between eight and 15 years of age. The new division became an instant hit with Speedway 660 race fans, who are kept on the edge of their seats every time these young drivers take to the track.

“The Westwood Estate Apartments Bandolero Division is one of the best things to ever happen to Speedway 660 because it has become a spring board for kids to develop their skills and jump into our other divisions when they are ready” said Max Roy. “Dana Hamm and Cole Boudreau, two former Bando champions are now running Pro Stocks, last year’s champ Drew Greenlaw along with Alexandra O’Blenis and Dawson MacIntee jumped to Sportsman and Destiny Enkel and Peter Martin are regulars in Street Stock.”Peter Martin SS VL 2013Peter Martin raced go-karts and Bandoleros before taking a seat in a Street Stock where he’s winning races and having lots of fun! The Bando division gives drivers like Peter the opportunity to hone their skills before moving to the higher divisions at 660.

In addition to the 30 lap Bando Blast, fans will see racing in the Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooter, DMR Auto Sales & Service Street Stock, Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman and Re/Max Group Four Realty Pro Stock Divisions. With 2014 championship points up for grab, it’ll be an incredible night of action in the Geary Woods.

For this Saturday only, Bando heat races will run at 7PM, followed by Street Stock, Sportsman and Pro Stock heats. Fans are encouraged to come early to see the Sharp Shooter heats at 6:30. Adult ticket prices are $14; Youth tickets, for kids between eight and 15 are $10; the Family Pass for two Adults and two Youths is $38 and; admission is always free for Speedway 660’s youngest race fans, seven and under. Adult pit passes are available for an additional $2.

Race teams, across the Maritimes, are getting ready for the first big Sportsman event of the season. Next Saturday (June 21) the Martin’s Home Heating 100 will see the winner earn $3000. It’s one of the biggest Sportsman paydays of the season and the top cars are expected to be in the Geary Woods for this race.

Speedway 660 is one of Canada’s premier stock car racing facilities. Located in New Brunswick’s Fredericton region, it attracts race teams and fans from the Maritimes, Maine and Quebec. The Speedway 660 racing season runs from mid May until Labour Day Weekend. SpeedWeekend 2014, one of the most prestigious short track events in eastern North America, is always a fitting way to wrap up Speedway 660’s racing season.
