Clark stops Shaw’s winning streak @ 660!

Johnny Clark finally got to victory lane in a Pro All Star Series race and in the process put an abrupt end to D.J. Shaw’s three straight Super Late Model wins. The PASS North 150 had fans on the edge of their seats all evening at Speedway 660 as Clark held off Joey Doiron and then Shaw in the late stages of the race to finally get the win.

“It’s been exactly two years since we won a PASS race and it’s incredible that it took a trip to Speedway 660 for us to finally get it done” said Clark from the Riverview Ford Victory Lane. “This is my favourite track, I just love coming up here and this win is exactly what this race team needed, I don’t think we had the best car tonight but we got the win.”PASS podium, June, 2014It took two years and a trip back to Speedway 660 for Johnny Clark (center) to finally get back to the PASS North SLM victory lane. D.J. Shaw (right) was runner-up and Joey Doiron (left) finished third in an incredibly exciting race!

The PASS North SLM 150 victory was Clark’s fourth straight at Speedway 660. He won in 2010, 11 & 12. Last year’s race was rained out and unable to be rescheduled, so this win ended a lengthy two year winless streak for the driver from Hallowell, Maine. It also ends a three race winning streak for D.J. Shaw who finished second at Speedway 660 on Saturday night.

“We sure are disappointed not to make history tonight by winning an unprecedented fourth PASS race in a row, but it was a good points night so we’ll take it” said a disappointed Shaw, who races out of North Conway, New Hampshire. “Johnny gave us the inside lane and we drove it deep into the corner several times during the last five or six laps, but he was just too strong on the exit of the turns and we weren’t able to get it done.”clark, shaw final pass laps 2014Johnny Clark (#54) gave D.J. Shaw the inside groove in the final few laps of Saturday night’s PASS North race at Speedway 660. Clark held on for the victory, ending Shaw’s three race winning streak!

Clark started up front and gave up the lead to three different drivers, during the race, but always bounced back to the top of the leader board. First Martin Latulippe got around Clark, then later in the race Glen Luce passed him and with less than 40 laps to go Joey Doiron got the better of Clark’s 54. But when all was said and done Doiron could only manage a third place finish.

“I’m really disappointed, we worked hard tonight and finally passed Johnny for the lead and were cruising while he was trying to hold off D.J. in a battle for second” said Doiron. “That last caution killed us, Johnny restarted on the high groove, pinned us down low to grab the lead, then we couldn’t hold off D.J. and all we could do is watch those two guys race for the win.”doiron, clark and shaw PASS north 2014and Joey Doiron (#73) pins Clark down low on a re-start and takes the lead with Shaw in the mix too. But in the end, Doiron just couldn’t hold off the 54 and ended up third.

Johnny Clark, Travis Benjamin and Cassius Cark won the PASS North SLM qualifying heats. Fans were also treated to great racing in the DMR Auto Sales & Service Street Stock and Martins Home Heating Sportsman Divisions.

Andrew Rodgers and Brent Roy waged a ferocious battle in the Sportsman feature. Rodgers finally wore-out Roy and made an incredible pass in the late stages of the race to win his first Sportsman feature at Speedway 660. Roy settled for second, while Andrew’s older brother Matt came home third. Andrew Rodgers and Greg Fahey won the heat races.

Rick Cashol got back to victory lane in the street stock feature. Cashol had an awesome run to win for the first time in over a year. Roger Slocum, the defending street stock champion finished second, while Luc MacLaughlin took third. Heidi Cooper and Peter Martin were street stock heat winners.

Next Saturday night Speedway 660 hosts a 30 lap Bando Blast. The best young drivers in Atlantic Canada will put on a show for fans in their Westwood Estate Apartments Bandolero cars. Championship points will also be up for grabs in the Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooter, Dmr Auto Sales & Service Street Stock, Martins Home Heating Sportsman and Re/Max Group Four Realty Pro Stock Divisions.
