Fredericton, NB – Speedway 660 has yet to hold an uneventful weekend for 2008 and this weekend isn’t going to be any different. This weekend, under the lights, fans will be treated to two of the biggest events of the year, twin 100 lap events featuring the Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman and Irving Lubricants Pro Stock divisions. Originally planned for June 14th was the Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman 100, however due to Mother Nature’s interference, Speedway 660 officials decided to add on another 100 lapper, the Irving Lubricant’s “Best of the Best” Pro Stock 100, which had been
rained out two weekends prior. With all this excitement the usual start time of 6pm has been moved to a special start time of 5pm!
The “Best of the Best” Pro Stock Series is a two-race mini-series featuring 100 lap events. Position points are awarded for each event with a series winner being determined after the July 12th event. Position points accumulated during the “Best of the Best” are not added to the season long
Irving Lubricants Pro Stock Division Points Championship. Instead, each driver who runs a “Best of the Best” event receives 30 points towards the overall points championship (show up points). The second and final “Best of the Best” being held on July 12th with the Coast Tire “Best of the Best”
Fans can expect to see US drivers Scott Chubbuck (Brunswick, ME), Travis Benjamin (Morrell, ME), and Kirk Thibeau (Presque Isle, ME) plus CARQUEST Pro Stock Tour Champions Shawn Tucker (Fredericton) and John Flemming (Halifax) along with the Peterbilt 250 Champions, Lonnie Sommerville (Saint John) and Dave O’blenis (Boundery Creek) take part in this weekend’s events. However the outsiders will have some tough competition
against last weekends feature winner, Brent Wiggins, along with other winners such as, Hal O’Neal, and Greg Fahey
The Martin’s Home Heating division will take part in their first big race of the 2008 season this weekend. After last weekend’s birthday surprise and first time feature winners, fans can expect nothing but excitement in this division. Drivers from all over the Maritime’s could make an appearance this weekend to get a shot at winning the 100 lap event.
Aside from watching the Twin 100′s, fans will be sitting on the edge of their seats with another points race lined up for the Coast Tire Street Stock division. Last weekend Bill Belleville took home his first feature win for the 2008 season while Jack Lane and Matt Matheson rounded out the top three. Could these drivers make another appearance in victory lane podium finishes or will one of the many other drivers take a stab at winning the top spot?
This Saturday will also be a special event aside from the racing. Wayne Smith completed his 72 hour Drive for Cancer on Tuesday and will be at the Speedway this Saturday to present the cheque to the Canadian Cancer Society of all the money raised. It will also be a night to celebrate the Riverton
Beavers, Cubs and Scouts from local areas. All beavers, cubs and scouts who attend the race in their uniform will get in FREE, as well as the parent that attends the event with the child will get in for $5.
From the two 100′s, the edge-of-the-seat action, the WicKID family fun, the free prize giveaways, this race day will be one to remember.
