(Geary, NB – July 18th, 2018) – Speedway 660 is gearing up for what is quickly shaping up as the biggest Street Stock division event in Eastern Canada on the 2018 calendar. The Ricky Bobby Street Stock 100 presented by DMR Auto will go green this Saturday with qualifying for the event which will guarantee $1,500 to the winner and carry over $12,000 in cash and prizes for Street Stock racers. Post time on July 21st is 6:30pm.
Here’s what you need to know about the inaugural Ricky Bobby 100 presented by DMR Auto.
DEEP TALENT ASSEMBLED FOR SATURDAY’S 100-LAP SHOWCASE
Speedway 660 has established itself as having some of the best Street Stock racing in the Maritimes. Four different drivers have found their way to victory lane in the first half of 2018, which is the highest number of different winners of any Street Stock division in the region. Justin Cole (Harvey) leads the way in feature wins with four wins in seven events while point leader Riley Goodwin (McAdam), Shawn Hyslop (St. Stephen) and Roger Slocum (Chipman) each own one feature victory.
In addition to the feature winners, “The Villian” Rick Cashol (Saint John), Matt Crocker (Oromocto) and Benji Ruff (Carlow) have also scored podium finishes on the season.
Speedway 660 has seen 17 different cars hit the track in 2018 within the DMR Auto Street Stock division, most of which will be on track Saturday night to defend their home turf.
EXTENDED DISTANCE, BIG MONEY BRING IN BIG NAMES
With a stack of cash on the line and 100-laps on the board, a number of drivers from across the region are expected to make the haul for the Ricky Bobby 100 presented by DMR Auto.
Leading the field of “big race” chasers include a familiar face in Luc McLaughlin. McLaughlin, from Geary, is the reigning DMR Auto Street Stock champion but the team has opted to travel and chase big events in 2018.
He’ll face off once again with Oyster Bed Bridge, PE’s Alex Sheehan. Less than a month ago, McLaughlin and Sheehan battled for a win at Oyster Bed Speedway which resulted in neither picking up the checkered flag. Like that event, this race will be 100-laps in length and will see big money for the class on the line. Fans will be in for a treat as these two will dance with the Speedway 660 regulars for the inaugural Ricky Bobby 100 presented by DMR Auto title.
Another driver making his Street Stock debut at Speedway 660 on Saturday night is Charlottetown, PE’s Brodie MacQuarrie. MacQuarrie spent a number of years racing in the Oyster Bed Speedway Late Model division before moving back to the Street Stocks for the 2018 season. MacQuarrie’s only start at Speedway 660 came in the 2013 Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour event where he finished 21st driving for Tom Nicholls.
Word on the street is that fans may see the return of Rodney Ness to the Geary woods. Ness was a household name in the DMR Auto Street Stock division with his signature rocket on the door. It would be the first time Ness has competed at his home track since 2015.
Nick Cudmore of Petitcodiac will bring his hot hand to Speedway 660 on Saturday night. Cudmore has already pocketed a 100-lap victory at Petty International Raceway this season and leads the points in the Street Stock division at that facility. Cudmore is a racer’s racer and is sure to be in the hunt when the chips are on the table on Saturday.
Dan Smith (Lower Sackville, NS) is hopeful to make the trip to Speedway 660 a successful one. Smith is a six time champion at Scotia Speedworld in the Truck division. With the Trucks disbanded in 2018, Smith has taken his No. 39 on the road this year and hopes to make his first trip to the Geary woods a successful one.
A number of visiting drivers are also making plans to visit Speedway 660 this weekend, adding to an already deep talent pool expected to roll out for the Ricky Bobby 100 presented by DMR Auto.
SHOW ME THE MONEY – PURSE OVER $12,000 ON SATURDAY
The previously announced purse of over $8,000 for the Ricky Bobby 100 presented by DMR Auto has grown to over $12,000.
Among the additions include boosting finishing positions sixth to tenth to $300 from Lisa McIntosh of RE/MAX East Coast Elite Realty, bringing the total purse for finishing positions to $6,550 based on a 26 car field. The event will pay the winner a guaranteed $1,500.
In addition, over $4,000 in additional contingency bonuses have been added to the event. The leaders of five laps will receive $100 (Lap 26, Lap 32, Lap 34, Lap 40 and Lap 79) while three additional laps (Lap 41, Lap 77 and Lap 94) will carry a $250 bonus to the leader. The Halfway Leader at the Lap 50 break will receive $500.

Wilkins Signs has donated $500 to be used towards a car decaling package and McLaughlin Roof Trusses will make two draws for two Street Stock tires. Both draws will be made among those signed in and at attendance during the driver’s meeting on Saturday evening.
Every Prince Edward Island team that makes the trek to Speedway 660 on Saturday night will receive a complimentary Confederation Bridge pass.

EARLY ARRIVAL TESTING AND CONCERT FRIDAY, BREAKFAST SATURDAY
Speedway 660 will host an open test for Street Stock teams competing in the Ricky Bobby 100 presented by DMR Auto from 5pm to 8pm on Friday, July 20th. The test is open to Street Stock teams only and is FREE to attend. Please note, this is a “Test n Tune” style session with one car being allowed on track at a time.
Following the open practice, The Walking Contradictions will entertain those who arrive early. Admission is by donation and all funds collected will go to a charity chosen by Rick Arbeau.
Saturday morning, Speedway 660 will host the Ricky Bobby Breakfast. The breakfast will consist of ham and scrambled eggs, home fries, tea and coffee and begins at 8am. All proceeds from the breakfast will go towards New Brunswick Special Olympics.
RACING FOR RICKY BOBBY
The Ricky Bobby 100 presented by DMR Auto is being run in honor of Rick Arbeau, known around Speedway 660 as Ricky Bobby. Arbeau has been diagnosed with stage four small cell cancer. Arbeau, who has been a fixture at the Speedway since its opening year of ’94, will take part in driver introductions on Saturday night as well as present the top three with their hardware in victory lane.
KIDS CLUB DRAWS ADD MORE TO RICKY BOBBY 100
In a promotion that began in June, random Kids Club members have been selected to be a part of the Ricky Bobby Street Stock 100. These lucky boys and girls will be special guests at the race and will get to greet drivers during introductions and receive event jackets commemorating the Ricky Bobby Street Stock 100.
In addition, each winner will pull a position at random prior to the race. The driver that finishes in that position will receive a $400 cash bonus courtesy of DMR Auto and the contingency sponsors of the event. Lucky winners so far include Sierra Suttie, Arianna Goodwin, Gabrielle Hyslop and Lucas Goodwin. One more winner will be drawn before the Ricky Bobby Street Stock 100.
MILITARY APPRECIATION NIGHT
In addition to the Ricky Bobby 100 presented by DMR Auto taking centre stage on Saturday night, the track is also hosting Military Appreciation Night. Active and retired members who show military identification and bring a food donation for the Oromocto Food Bank will receive $10 admission to the speedway on Saturday evening. This promotion is only valid for front gate admission.
PRO STOCKS, SPORTSMAN AND SHARP SHOOTERS ON THE CARD
In addition to the DMR Auto Sales Street Stock special event, three divisions will contest point paying features. After a week off, the cars and stars of the RE/MAX East Coast Elite Realty Pro Stock, Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman and Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooters are itching to get back on track.
Dave O’Blenis (Boundary Creek) leads Ryan Messer (Harvey) and Greg Fahey (St. Stephen) in the Pro Stock standings after six races in the 2018 season. Drew Greenlaw (Eastport, ME) continues to lead a tight Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman point battle while Scott “Bat Hubby” Kennie (Fredericton) rolls on with his sensational sophomore season by leading the way in the Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooters division.
While the Street Stock division will be in the spotlight with the Ricky Bobby 100 presented by DMR Auto, you best believe the support divisions will try to steal the show on Saturday.
“THE FINE PRINT”
Adult grandstand admission price for Saturday evening’s Ricky Bobby 100 presented by DMR Auto is $15 (aged 16 and up). Pit admission is $20 and is restricted to those 16 years of age and older. Tickets are available at the gate on race day. Pit gates for competitors will open at 12pm, grandstand gates open for spectators at 5pm with racing getting underway at 6:30pm. A complete race day and weekend format is available at the bottom of this release. Should inclement weather interfere on Saturday evening, a rain date has been set for this event for Sunday, July 22nd at 2pm.
