Saturday is Kids Day at Speedway 660. The focus this week is on our youngest fans and it’s always amazing to see just how many kids come out onto the track during the intermission for our famous candy scramble!
Race fans saw some great action during last week’s Riverview Ford Lincoln season opener. Race teams in all five divisions were well prepared and we had one of the biggest season opening crowds in recent years. The great weather had a lot to do with that, but I also know that folks were anxious to get back to Speedway 660 after the long winter.
There were several highlights from week one, but I couldn’t get over just how good Glyn Nott and Greg Fahey were in their Sportsman and Pro Stock cars.
Fahey had to be good to win the A.L. Gullison Disaster Clean-up Pro Stock feature over former Speedway 660 champions Dave O’Blenis and Chris Duncan. And good news – O’Blenis hinted during his post-race interview that he hopes to run full-time with us this year! Dave is a class-act, a real gentleman and a great dad too!
Daughters Alexandra and Courtney both run Bandoleros full time, which takes a lot of dad’s time and efforts.
Fans were treated to an exciting night of racing as Speedway 660 opened the 2012 season. Glyn Nott and Greg Fahey dominated action in the Sportsman and Pro Stock Division. Nott completed the hat trick in the Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman Division by winning his heat, dash and feature. Fahey won his heat, finished 2nd in the dash and won the A.L. Gullison Disaster Clean-up Pro Stock feature.
Nott outdueled Brent Roy in the 30 lap Sportsman feature to take the checkers. Peter Gaddess also had a strong run and finished 3rd. Fahey, the defending Pro Stock champ, won his 40 lap feature by beating Dave O’Blenis who finished 2nd and 2010 champion Chris Duncan who crossed the stripe 3rd.
Defending R.V. World Street Stock champion Rick Cashol got the best of fan favourite Heidi Cooper to win his 20 lap feature. After leading 17 laps Cooper had to settle for 3rd, while Beji Ruff came home 2nd.
Fans were also treated to exciting action in the Hanwell Village Mart Bandolero and 4 cylinder divisions. Cole Tanner got his 2012 season off to a great start by winning his 15 lap feature. Cole Boudreau took 2nd and Drew Greenlaw finished 3rd. T.J. Madore went to victory lane in the 4 cylinder division, followed by Jeremy Doran and Kevin Peterson.
