I believe in the power of positive-thinking, so I am predicting we will finally get back to racing at Speedway 660 this Saturday. After a week of rain and a week of less-than-accurate forecasts from the Weather Network, we all have a voracious appetite for some great racing.
Its Fan Fest 2009. No-one has ever seen anything like it, because everybody and I mean everybody will be admitted to the races free of charge. That’s right, fans, sponsors, drivers, crews and everyone else gets in for nothing. Heck, we might even see that family of rabbits who used to sneak in a few years ago over by the rhubarb in turn two!
Speedway 660 is giving people a chance to attend the races at the track for FREE this Saturday, July 4th, with a special community appreciation event at the Speedway in Geary. Fan Fest 2009 presented by Sojourn Signs gets underway at 7pm but fans are encouraged to come early and get their seat.
Admission is absolutely FREE by picking up a complimentary ticket at one of the event’s participating ticket distribution locations this week.
Once again we will be participating in the Oromocto and Fredericton Parades. We will also be taking in the block party festivities on the green in Fredericton.
We would like to have race teams represented from each division so if you are able to bring your car down and display for the day please let us know at the office and we’ll save you a spot with us at Officers Square.
Officials at Speedway 660 and CARQUEST Pro Stock Tour have canceled today’s Parts for Trucks 100 for this evening with the rain forecast into the late evening. Given tomorrow’s poor forecast the rain date for tomorrow has been canceled as well. Stay tuned for reschedule date.
Dont forget next week is FAN FEST 2009. Free admission tickets can be picked up at the following locations:
Riverview Ford Lincoln on Hanwell Road
RV World at the Lincoln Big Stop
Coast Tire locations on Prospect and Wilsey Road
Peterbilt New Brunswick on Gillis Road
O’Leary Pontiac Buick GMC on Hanwell Road
Maclean’s Sports on Union Street
Macleans PowerSports on Rothesay Avenue
Peterbilt New Brunswick on Venture Drive
The Carquest Pro Stock Tour is heading to the Geary Woods this weekend and the Parts for Trucks 100. After a couple rain outs in the past couple weeks, everyone is ready to get back in action. Fans can expect to see another exciting night of racing under the lights at Speedway 660. There are around 30 cars expected to make the trip to the speedway this weekend. This is the only time that the tour will be at the track this season for a standalone event as they will be back again as part of the Peterbilt 250. If the Carquest tour events of the last couple of years are any indication, fans are in for another night of “on the edge of your seat” action. Time trials will start promptly at 6:10p.m.
Man do I ever hate to see Saturday skies open-up and rain ruin a race day! But that’s what happened last weekend when the heavy rains kept us away from Speedway 660.
It was a no-brainer because based on the forecast and what we saw early in the day, it was obvious even to me that we had no chance of racing. It is much more difficult making a decision if the weather is overcast and rain could come. Take for example, a week ago Sunday when the forecast called for 90 percent chance of rain and based on that, the first Enduro event was called off. Guess what? The rain held off.
Mother nature wins again…. Officials at Speedway have canceled tonight’s Fredericton Inn weekly racing event and the Mascot Challenge festivities. There is no rain date for this event but stay tuned for the reschedule date for the Mascot Challenge Festivities.
CARQUEST Pro Stock tour is on tap next weekend. Check back through the week for details on entry list and weekly teams that will be running next Saturday night.
