(FREDERICTON, NB – September 3rd, 2020) – The Atlantic Modified Tour returns to Speedway 660 this Labour Day weekend as a part of SpeedWeekend 2020. The open wheel cars and stars will be participating in two races this weekend – a non point exhibition race on Friday night, the Bryn Enterprises 35, and the third of six Atlantic Modified Tour point races on Sunday afternoon, the Krown Rust Control 35. Over a dozen drivers are expected to compete in the SpeedWeekend Sunday event. Racing begins on Friday evening, September 4th at 8pm while the Sunday, September 6th show is an afternoon one with racing slated for 2pm.
Following a rain out at Speedway Miramichi on August 29th, the Krown Rust Control 35 at Speedway 660 now marks the third of six rounds on the 2020 season. The Krown Rust Control 35 is the second stop to the Geary speedplant on the year. Last month, Logan Power (Riverview, NB) drove to the win in the Fox Chevrolet 35 over Yves McCray (Neguac, NB) and reigning Tour champion Brandon Skidmore (Springhill, NS). The race was fast paced and only featured two caution periods.
The point standings have not changed since the last time the Series visited Speedway 660. Power still remains out front based on his two feature victories in as many races. McCray sits a mere two points out of the lead. Miramichi based drivers Zean Dutcher and Travis Conroy are two points apart for third with Dutcher 26 out of the point lead. Skidmore finds himself rounding out the top five in the standings after two races.
Joe Hoyt (Waasis, NB), Steven Curtis (South Esk, NB) and Braxton Stafford (Blackville, NB) haven’t had the smoothest of starts to the 2020 season. Stafford scored a top five in the Fox Chevrolet 35 at Speedway 660 in August but was sidelined early in the CannaConnect 35 at Petty Raceway. Hoyt and Curtis have been knocking on the door of top five efforts in the first two races but their efforts have been unsuccessful.
With the draw of SpeedWeekend comes some returning faces to the Atlantic Modified Tour. Chris Wilson (South Esk, NB), John Lyons (Fredericton, NB), Jamie Weston (Saint John, NB) and Tyson Donovan (Miramichi, NB) are all on the potential list of entries for Sunday’s Krown Rust Control 35.

Tim’s Corner Motorsports and their TCMtv crew will be at Speedway 660 to produce video on-demand episodes of the three nights of SpeedWeekend 2020. Their coverage will be available the following afternoon of each event with a Video On Demand pass to each race at www.timscorner.tv. Passes are on sale now with a portion of each sale going back to support Speedway 660.
SpeedWeekend 2020 will kick off with a new addition. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the traditional Corn Boil, Concert and Bonfire cannot be held within the infield of Speedway 660. Fans will be able to watch some racing to start SpeedWeekend though, as the Atlantic Modified Tour and the Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooters will open the weekend on Friday, September 4th at 8pm. A Pro Stock Happy Hour practice will follow the racing action, giving the teams a chance to put down laps on the oval in a night time setting on 250 weekend prior to the big race. Grandstand admission for the Friday evening racing action will be $5.
Saturday’s racing card will once again be anchored by an extended distance Sportsman show as Martin’s Home Heating presents a 125-lap feature for the class. The Legend and Mini Stock divisions will compete in their only feature events of the weekend while the Tim’s Corner Motorsports Bandolero Blast kicks off with the first of two 25-lap features on SpeedWeekend 2020. The Mini Stock division will compete under Petty International Raceway Mini Stock rules. The start time for the Saturday SpeedWeekend show is 6pm.
SpeedWeekend 2020 will be capped on Sunday, September 6th with the 20th Annual Pro Stock 250. The 250 is the third of four races in the home and home series with Petty International Raceway for the Pro Stock division and is expected to draw the best talent from across Atlantic Canada to compete for the $10,000 top prize. The Atlantic Modified Tour will be back to contest their third of six scheduled point races on their 2020 season. The DMR Auto Street Stocks, Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooters and Tim’s Corner Motorsports Bandolero Blast will round out the show. Qualifying begins at 2pm on Sunday, September 6th.
