Weagle Sharpest Shooter in Gunslinger 50

(GEARY, NB – August 12th, 2019) – Mike Weagle (Salisbury, NB) made the best of his first start in the 2019 season by driving to victory lane in the inaugural Gunslinger 50 presented by Fairview Jeep Ram and Fredericton Gun Shop Sunday at Speedway 660. Weagle took the lead for the final time with 11 laps remaining in the event and held off a frantic challenge from BJ Gillespie (Harvey, NB) for the win.

“Patience, it took a lot of patience in traffic,” said Weagle after climbing from the No. 10 car in Riverview Ford Lincoln Victory Lane. “We were steady through the race, the restarts were great all day. What a race, I can’t believe we won it!”

Gillespie, the only multi-time winner in the Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooter division in the 2019 season, had to settle for second. Tony Urquhart (Charter’s Settlement, NB) finished third in his return after leading laps in the second half of the race. Rookie drivers Tristan Harris (Harvey, NB) and Jon Forsythe (Oromocto, NB) completed the top five in the 25-car field.

Gillespie, Harris and Randy Titus (French Lake, NB) took home heat race victories to qualify for the Gunslinger 50 presented by Fairview Jeep Ram and Fredericton Gun Shop.

Greg Fahey (St. Stephen, NB) raced to the win in the RE/MAX East Coast Elite Realty Pro Stock division for his second feature victory of 2019. Matt Harris (Fredericton Junction, NB) posted a strong second place finish while Chris Duncan (Hampton, NB) raced to third after a close battle with championship point leader Brent Roy (Hanwell, NB). Dustin Tucker (Fredericton, NB) was fifth in the 50-lap feature. Heats were won by Roy and Fahey.

Curtis Collins (Barnesville, NB) cruised to his fourth feature victory of the season in the Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman division. Collins, who entered as the point leader in the class, raced to the win ahead of Lonnie Sommerville Racing stablemate Drew Greenlaw (Eastport, ME) and heat race winner Richard Atkinson (Geary, NB). Ryan and Robert Raynes (Saint John, NB) brought home top five finishes at the end of the 40-lap main.

Justin Cole’s (Harvey, NB) last minute decision to race on Sunday afternoon paid off in a DMR Auto Street Stock victory. The win was earned with a late race scramble after “The Villain” Rick Cashol (Saint John, NB) and Eric Matthews swapped paint in the closing laps. Cashol edged Matthews to the stripe behind Cole for the runner-up spot. Courtney Barton (Minto, NB) and Chris Hanley (St. Stephen, NB) raced to top five finishes in the event. Cashol and Matthews won heat race checkered flags.

Two championship point racing cards remain in the 2019 season at Speedway 660. Saturday, August 17th is the track’s annual salute to their Saturday night fans with Fan Appreciation Night. An autograph session will kick off the festivities at 5:30pm with the green flag going in the air at 6:30pm on Saturday.
